Transatlantic Foreign Policy Discourse in a Globalizing World

Transatlantic Foreign Policy Discourse (TFPD)

This website provides an overview over the activities of the Transatlantic Foreign Policy Discourse. From 2002 until 2008, project activities were carried out through a grant from the German Marshall Fund of the United States and were aimed at discussing “Diverging Views on World Order?” In the year 2009, the political landscapes on both sides of the Atlantic have changed considerably and the diverging views, which had provided the background of this project, have been developing towards convergence. Guided by this new perspective on transatlantic relations, this website will continue to present relevant publications and activities by the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) with regard to transatlantic relations.

Brief Summary of the Transatlantic Foreign Policy Discourse

The Transatlantic Foreign Policy Discourse (TFPD) aims at bringing together decision-makers and opinion leaders from the United States and Europe in an open exchange of ideas. Specifically, TFPD seeks to examine the strategic implications of new international challenges and emerging players in the international concert of powers by

  • engaging members of the German/European-American policy community and enhancing a common understanding of international affairs and global challenges;
  • deepening and renewing a transatlantic exchange among decision-makers, academics, think tanks, NGOs, and the media;
  • raising awareness of multilateral solutions in the context of an increasingly interdependent world.
